Phil

This was one of those great little encounters where I didn't even have to try. Phil spotted my camera as I walked past and instantly asked what I was taking photos of. We got chatting and I asked if I could take a couple of photos of him and he was great about it, even asking me where I wanted him to stand.

As for the background, I'd walked past that wall loads of times before and thought it'd work quite well for a portrait. I think it would look better sharper but it was cloudy and my depth of field was limited.

Overall, this has come out as quite a straight photo, even though I spent a while processing it. Oh, and you can also see Phil as a hair model on this site.

I really think the colours work well together on this shot. You couldn't have dressed the guy much better. And as Harry says, the hair looks great.

I know what you mean about the background lacking sharpness! guess you need a decent flash! Great shot tho, he has pretty intense eyes and facial expressions which would work great with a tighter crop

I do tend to carry the flash (plus wireless remote) around with me but I didn't have it that day. And it prob wouldn'tve occurred to me to use it if I had it. Holding the 20D with the 100mm lens in one hand's not the simplest of things. Good exercise though :)

don't use a flash in this case. the lighting is just right. good job.
