Title:
Act of God

Untitled #15

Posted on Fri 21st Jul, 2006, 3:13pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 728 Secs, Aperture: f/5,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: 16:9,
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM, Focal length: 14mm,
Captured: 16th June 2006, 0:55am,

This was taken at the same time as the self-portrait I posted a week ago and, like that shot, this was also taken in the pitch black.

If you haven't yet tried doing photography in the middle of the night, I'd urge you to give it a go. Remember to bring a torch though, otherwise it's hard to focus on anything except point-light sources. Obviously you'll need a tripod as well.

Superb marco shot, love the perspective and the horizon.

Not bad Jamey....getting a lot better at these. MY only niggly issue is that the grass isn't as interesting as the rest of the shot.

Jon, Fri 21st Jul, 2006, 4:34pm
Nice shot. The only thing I'd change would be the sky, it looks a bit flat.

Jonathan, Fri 21st Jul, 2006, 4:36pm
Like it Jamey, the grass at the front is nice and sharp and all the colours go well.

Yep, gotta try this!

I really like how you bring these images out. I need to try something in a very dark place. Great shot.

Lovely, fantastic DOF as usually, really like it

Mmm as Jon says the sky does seem to be a little bit flat and uninteresting... I like the tonal colour of the grass though.

Sys (and Jon) - Iknow what you mean but it's hard to get detail on a ten-minute+ exposure. Clouds move. Plus it was actually clear that night and that's the effect I wanted. I didn't want it to be immediately obvious it was the middle of the night, preferring for a slightly eerie "is it daytime or sunset or what?" feel. Also the 16x9 crop means that the frame would look crowded if there was a busy, cloudy sky, I think. I like the sense of space and peace. Clouds would add drama but "deacrease da peace", as it were :)

Whilst I'm not overly keen on the content (sorry!) I do like the ambiguity being presented in that it's not clear when this was taken.

Very cool perspective to this shot - Very nice!
