Untitled #22

Posted on Wed 30th Aug, 2006, 6:31pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/50, Aperture: f/5,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: Fill, Cropping: Minor,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 18mm,
Captured: 23rd August 2006, 11:09pm,

This image really, really annoys me because it could've been one of my favourites if I'd taken a bit more time over it.

Instead, there are lots of things wrong with it: the middle light isn't positioned exactly between two struts, the horizontal lines look wonky, despite being as level as I could get them, the image doesn't balance properly on both sides and it just feels wrong overall.

So why am I posting it? Because I believe there is artistic merit in images that are difficult to look at or that provoke a response, regardless of whether that response is positive or negative.

In the past I've put up images that I wasn't happy with as a reminder to myself to try harder in future. This is different because I do actually like it, just not for the reasons I originally thought I would.

Oh, by the way, this was shot at the same time as the trollies, in the airport. It's the ceiling directly above them. I really got my money's worth out of the surroundings.

Yeh I can see where you are coming from Jamey but don't beat yersen up about it mate, just take more time framing the shot next time ;-) Processing looks mega tho!

I've hardly done any processing at all. A slight S-curve, a bit of saturation and a (pretty futile) attempt to make it look 'straight' and that's about it.

I'm with Sys, you need to improve.

I think it's a strong graphical image and it doresn't matter if it's not prefectly straight lest alone actually getting a workable photo from a ceiling. Good stock photo methinks.
