Cranes Again

Posted on Thu 22nd Dec, 2005, 8:19pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/250, Aperture: f/8,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: 2/3,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 18mm,
Captured: 16th November 2005, 2:24pm,

This is the construction works at White City. It's going to be a big shopping centre and cinema type thing (I think) but I don't know when. They've been at it for years.

The sky was the main reason I took this one. The layered effect struck me most. It's perhaps a bit shadowy for my tastes but it's still a good image, I think.

On an unrelated note, my new monitors arrived today so I should be able to process things properly now. Also, working at a higher resolution has made me notice that the image sizes I've been using are perhaps a bit small in today's world, with it's proliferation of flat panel screens.

I've been sticking to 700 pixels along the longest side (sometimes shorter for portrait format shots) but I'm thinking of bumping it up to 800 now. Any opinions on that? If not I'll just do it and see how it goes.

I really like this picture, though you're right to say it is quite shadowy it does have quite a lot of impact, a nice overall effect which the shadows probably contribute to.

Blimey! Great shot - I thought it was a seascape at first glance due to the triangle in the middle that fooled me into thinking it was a sail. I'd try the 800 thang personally.

Lovely shot - the contrast is absolutely stunning on this one with a fantastic sky. Give us the pixels, we like bigger images

WOW! That's so dramatic, it made me gasp when it popped up on screen! I'd really love to see a huge print of it coz I'd just sit for days looking at it...
