Words & Pictures

ISO: 1600, Shutter speed: 1/15, Aperture: f/1.8,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: None,
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Focal length: 50mm,
Captured: 18th October 2005, 8:39pm,

This probably isn't the best photograph I took today. Technically, some of the photos I took on my lunch break were much sharper and had better colours. Artistically, all I've done here is take a picture of a sign that someone else made and stuck on a lamp post. But this image stood out for me and it's got a story attached, in more ways than one.

Firstly there's the picture itself. I think I like the fact that this deviates from the usual "here's a picture of my missing cat" type poster. It's a break from the norm and a reminder that there's always a story behind things.

Secondly, after I took this picture, I'd just put my camera back in the bag when I heard a loud bang and saw three kids running down the street towards me and laughing. They ran past before I could get the camera out and were off into the distance.

Looking up the road I saw some smoke coming from someone's front garden and a couple of girls came out into the street and started looking up and down. I walked over and told them what I'd seen and gave a description of the lads. It turned out there was no damage and the bang was just a firework.

As I was walking away I kicked myself for not trying to get a picture of the girls in front of their house but I guess it would've been a bit of a weird request to make given the timing. Also it would've been a bloody difficult capture as there was next to no light. I was fortunate with the photo above as the street light was reflecting off the white paper, although it's still very noisy and has very shallow depth of field.

Anyway I've rambled on a bit about my walk home from work. Sorry. This is probably a bit too self-indulgent for day two of a photoblog. I guess I should wait a couple of months before posting stuff like this again. I did take some 'proper' photos today and I'll probably post them soon. I've gotta run out of stuff sometime, eh.

interesting! It was knocked over ... that's odd. I find that a photoblog generally is one self's expressions and rambling :P I know I really ramble sometimes.

I'd be interested to know how the sign-making guy knew that the cat had moved after it was hit. Unless it ran off fast or something.

Bloody Jamaicans!

Oh, come on! These are the jokes people! Its nice though Jamey, wouldve like to have seen a picture of a smoke cloud and kids running, but hey... you'll pick up the timing thing eventually

The author of the note seems to have omitted both a contact name and numbr, yet she asks to be called if anyone has info????? Or are they below J?

Jamey, Tue 18th Oct, 2005, 11:15pm
The number was below but I figured it'd be a bit irresponsible of me to include them so I framed the shot deliberately to exclude them.

Sites looking good so far :) Keep up the awesome pictures :D PS. Your site could do with some of your sets (which should include some new ones!!!) ;)

Homer - I haven't forgotten mate. I promise I'll do a new one as soon as I get the time.

That's a weird way of wording the missing cat notice. My dog has a tendency to run off so this hits home a bit.
