Sax In Public

Posted on Wed 19th Oct, 2005, 10:31pm

ISO: 200, Shutter speed: 1/100, Aperture: f/6.3,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: None,
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Focal length: 50mm,
Captured: 19th October 2005, 3:06pm,

This guy's always out playing saxophone in the park near where I work. But as sod's law would have it (or murphy's law, for any American visitors) he hasn't been there whenever I've had my camera handy... Until today.

So I wandered over and asked if I could take a few shots. He said "of course", which was nice. But the lighting was a bit tricky to say the least. Most of my exposures were very dark and the ones that were even just didn't seem right.

In the end I went with one of the dark ones and just played around to get the best balance I could but it's still not great.

Anyway I chatted to the guy (who's name I've rather embarrassingly forgotten) for a while. He plays the trumpet and clarinet as well and, as you might expect, loves his music. He wants to join the Royal Marines to play in a/the band (do they have more than one? I guess so) and has his next interview in December so good luck, Mr saxophone player whose name I've forgotten. I hope you make it in.

I like the blind old woman, she can't believe the technology these days - a musical bench, whatever next?

Amazingly she wasn't actually blind... Saw her walking down the street later and she waved to me. Crazy, huh.

Great shot Jamey and nice bit of background info. Helps bring the photo "alive".

Cheers milou. Is that a new site of yours or is it just that I've only seen the pbase one before?

She really looks to be enjoying the music, brings the shot to life

Cheers - I've had this site for a while. I only started using pbase as I hadn't the first idea on how to write code, or how to incorporate a Copperhill gallery etc.

Jamey, Thu 20th Oct, 2005, 7:45pm
Apparently the marines told him he has to lose 20 kilos. If he manages it before December he deserves a medal. And as for spelling my name wrong, you can owe me a pint. I might put up your 'lady checker' pic at some point. Whaddya reckon?

that old bird has got 1001 blow job jokes running through her mind and she is just thinking how she can alter them to a mention a saxaphone also.
