Making Waves

Posted on Mon 24th Oct, 2005, 10:13pm

ISO: 400, Shutter speed: 1/250, Aperture: f/9,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: Fill, Cropping: Minor,
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Focal length: 50mm,
Captured: 24th October 2005, 10:03am,

Whenever it rains, a giant puddle forms under the railway bridge near White City tube station. I walk past it every day and on wet days have to run to avoid getting drenched by passing cars (some are considerate, others not so).

I decided to stop and take a few shots, for once. Most of the car-based photos were pretty dull but this one had much more spray and the guy's obviously looking right at the camera, something you wouldn't notice if it was a car.

I used fill flash to try to catch the water as it was in the air. Can't really say how well it worked since I didn't take a shot without flash to compare it with.

Nicely caught - the b & w conversion works well.

Is that a moped or a jet-ski;) Looks ok - like the carry on regardless attitude/expression of the rider:) Also a definate example of a pic that I think would on work in B/W, in my opinion.

Are you saying it does work in BW or it doesn't? Sorry. I know the comments system doesn't let you edit comments after they've been posted.

Sorry - Im saying that you made a good decision to publish it in B/W as it really works. In colour I dont think it would be as effective.

Ah right. Thank you :)

he does look a little bemused by the whole idea. Personally id have found a different route round instead of going straight through it on that thing. Nice shot though, i really have a soft spot for black and white photos

Excellent shot. Fact that he looked into the camera made it 100 times better.

Nicely done. I think it turned out quite well.

looks like that guy is a 'bike' wet!!

Markus Nilsson, Sun 30th Oct, 2005, 12:31am
Nice shot! I wonder how a panshot would have been with all the wather flushing around the bike...

Maybe he just caught the saw the flash and went 'feck, just been gatsoed'!
